Cultural Tourism Understanding that international travelers do not want to only see sights but to experience new cultures and different perspectives, TAYODEA is one of the leading cultural tourism organizations in East Africa. The cultural tourism programs introduces visitors to the traditions and lifestyles of East Africa. Programs include the culture of tribes, role of women, sisal in Tanga, impact of slavery, local politics and many other aspects unique to Africa. The Rough Guide calls the Cultural Tourism program Thirty percent of revenue from the cultural tourism program is used to support the economic development and social services of TAYODEA.

About Tanga Region
Tanga is situated on a picturisque bay that opens up to the warm Indian Ocean. Trips to sandy beaches or to the mountains are both common day trips. Situated just south of the equator, the termerature is warm throughout the year.
Tanga is in easy reach from many of the many of the regions busy cities. About a four to five hours bus ride from Dar es Salaam, Arusha and Mombassa, Kanya, travel around the region in not a problem. Nearby tourist attractions in Tanga include the Amboni Caves, Toten Island, Tanga War Graves and Memorials, Tongoni Ruins, Ndumi Village defense works, Mwarongo sand beaches and protected coastal mangroves.
Lushoto is an optimal location to explore rural life and culture in Africa. Common with backpackers and those looking to explore, Lushoto is an attractive town set in a valley at an altitude over 1200 meters, surrounded by small patches of pine forest combined with tropical vegetation. Located about three hours from Tanga, it is the center of the western Usambalas Mountains and makes an excellent base for hikes into the surrounding hills. Many travelers will hike for many days from town to town. During the German era, Lushoto was a favored holiday sport for colonial administrators. Lushoto is within easy reach to visit many of the rural tribes in the area.
Getting There and Away Buses leave from Dar es Salaam every 30 minutes and cost ~$ 9 USD and the journey takes about 5 hours. Buses from Arusha to Tanga cost ~$12 USD and the journey takes about 6 hours.
